- Description: Staffordshire Police Authority covered the areas of both Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council. From 1 Apr 1995 the Staffordshire Police Authority became an independent body, consisting of 17 members: 9 county councillors, 3 magistrates and 5 independent members. It had a statutory duty to secure the maintenance of an efficient and effective police force in this area.
The Police Authority had to agree to an annual costed Policing Plan, prepared on behalf of the Police Authority by the Chief Constable, and issue an annual report.
