- Description: This is a limited collection of District Council records. It comprises a short series of rate books in the Treasurer's section; registers of improvement grants in the Surveyor's section and Medical Officer of Health annual reports. There are few historic maps and Ordnance Survey sheets included. There are also registers of electors by District Council boundary from c.1984 (available through the main series at Staffordshire Record Office - please ask for these separately).
Registers that start before the government reorganisation of 1974 have been listed under the respective predecessor authority (Leek Urban and Rural Districts, Biddulph Urban District and Cheadle Rural District). Those starting after 1974 have been listed under Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, but in all cases there are overlaps of dates.
Some of the records listed under the predecessor authorities contined to be used after 1974. They must have been passed over to the new Stafforshire Moorlands District Council as current working documents. In addition, the finishing dates of the registers are based on the completion dates given within the register. These can be some time later than the original application because the work on the properties or the allocation of grants took time to organise and complete. Therefore, there can be a date overlap between types of registers that are clearly part of a continuing sequence. - Category:District council
