As a public body the functions of Stone Urban District Council were sanitation, public health, town planning, education and housing. These functions were carried out by the following committees: Sanitary and Stables Committee; Highways and Properties Committee; Water and Lighting Committee; Electricity Committee; Housing Committee; Finance, Rating and Valuation Committee; Child Welfare Committee; Civil Defence Committee; Planning Committee; Local Library Committee; Public Health Committee.
- Format: Local Authorities
- Description: This is a relatively strong District Council collection. Record series of particular strength or interest have been mentioned below:
Clerk's Department - there is a good series of council and committee minutes (1934-1974). The bulk of the records are three series of correspondence: out letter books (1906-1927); in letter books (1895-1946); and subject files (1904-1973). These correspondence series give a broad indication of the range of work carried out by the council.
Treasurer - there is a good series of general accounts and housing accounts. There is a strong series of rating records (1910-1970).
Surveyor - the bulk of the records are three series of correspondence: out letter books (1911-1943); in letter books (1913-1943); and subject files (1899-1969).
Medical Officer of Health - there is a series of annual reports (1935-1968) and registers of infectious diseases (1938-1962)
Public Health Inspector - it appears that this post may have been combined with that of the Surveyor and therefore this small series of Public Health Inspector's records should be consulted along with those of the Surveyor. The records in this section relate to housing and water supply. - Category:Urban district councils
