- Administrative History: Stone Rural District Council was created in 1894 with the Local Government Act 1894. Its areas of jurisdiction were: Barlaston; Chebsey; Cold Norton (1894 - 1932); Eccleshall; Fulford (1897 - 1974); Hilderstone (1897 - 1974); Milwich; Sandon; Standon; Stone Rural; Swynnerton; and Trentham (1894 - 1932). Stone Rural District was abolished in 1974 when it merged with Stafford Borough, Stafford Rural District and Stone Urban District to form Stafford District Council. As a public body the functions of Stone Rural District Council were sanitation, public health, town planning, education and housing. It carried out these functions through the following committees: Sewerage and Sanitary; Rating and Valuation; General Purposes; and Housing.

Clerk's Department - council minutes (1899-1974) and committee minutes (1896-1974).
Treasurer - good series of rating and valuation records (1895-1971).
Surveyor - building control plans (1909-1947)
Public Health Inspector - registers (1947-1974)
Civil Parish records - officers' accounts for Cold Norton (1749-1827) and Hilderstone township (1792-1805). Also good series of valuation lists (1823-1889) and rate books for Stone civil parish (1823-1893). - Category:Rural district councils
