- Description: From Q/SR/1-Q/SR/264 all the Rolls for the ordinary Quarterly Sessions (marked *) contain the following items (unless otherwise stated) plus the items mentioned for the individual Session :- Writ of Summons; Calendar; Jury Panels; Presentments and/or Indictments; Process Writs.
From Michaelmas 1589 Recognisances appear regularly in the rolls
From Epiphany 1591/2 Precepts, Panels for Petty Juries and a few Petitions appear fairly regularly.
From about Epiphany 1603/4 Petitions become more numerous and Recognisances take up to half of each roll
For a time from Epiphany 1608/9 Ignored Indictments usually found at end of roll.
From Easter 1618 until Epiphany 1630/31 Memoranda of Acts of Sessions; Informations
From Easter 1620 Orders including Copies of Orders of Previous Sessions, Orders of One or More Justices at or Between Sessions and Testimonials appear regularly and in greater numbers.
From Trinity 1627 Oaths that Informations are True appear regularly until Epiphany 1631/32
From Easter 1631 Acts of Sessions cease to appear.
From Epiphany 1631/32 Depositions and Examinations appear regularly.
From Easter 1632 Oaths that Informations are True cease to appear
From 1645 - Michaelmas 1648 the rolls become irregular, all items are listed.
From Q/SR/265 Rolls for the ordinary Quarterly Sessions (marked *) contain the following items (unless otherwise stated) in addition to any specific items mentioned for the individual Session:- Petitions, Informations, Orders, Recognisances, Indictments, Jury Lists, Precept, Calendar, Process Writs, Depositions. - Related Material: William Salt Library has a roll for a Special Sessions at Walsall, 1597, relating to riots (?enclosure), and an assault case relating to embezzlement (reference WSL M15).
